Reverse Osmosis System - Q&A

When should the filters be changed in my system?

We recommend changing your filters every 6 to 12 months depending on the quality of water going through the system.

Why do I have little water pressure coming out of my reverse osmosis faucet?

In most cases little water pressure is due to the storage tank losing air. The storage tank should have between 7 to 10 PSI when it is completely empty of water. The tank should be serviced every year when the filters are changed. There should be a date code on the tank that will let you know how old the tank is. Tanks over 10 years old may need to be tested at our store to see if they are still good. If you are having problems with your tank you can always bring it by our store and we can service it for free.

*The tank is the most common reason for low pressure, but there are other causes. It is best to contact our office for assistance if you are having problems with your reverse osmosis system*

3

How do I service my reverse osmosis tank?

To service your tank you will need an air compressor. Make sure the reverse osmosis faucet is open and the tank is on. At the bottom of the tank there is a schrader valve (like you see on tires). Start adding air to the tank, as you do water should start coming out of the reverse osmosis faucet. Once the tank is completely empty of water it should be set to 7 to 10 PSI.

If you are having problems with your tank you can always bring it by our store and we can service it for free.

4

Why does my reverse osmosis water taste "off" ?

There are a few reasons why the water from your reverse osmosis tastes could taste "off". If you have not changed your filters or haven't had your system serviced in over a year, this could cause bad tasting water. Or your membrane could no longer good. The best thing to do is either have one of our technicians service your system or bring a sample of tap water and reverse osmosis water to our store and we can test it for you.

5

Why do I hear running water after I use my reverse osmosis system?

For every gallon of good water made by your reverse osmosis system there is 2 to 3 gallons of wastewater. After you use your reverse osmosis system it automatically starts making more water causing wastewater to go down your drain. This can last up to an hour and a half after use. If your system never stops draining, contact our office for assistance.

6

How do I change my reverse osmosis systems filters?

Please see reverse osmosis manual for step by step instructions.

7

What should I do with my system when I leave for the summer months?

We recommended shutting down your reverse osmosis system if you are going to be away for longer than a month. We do offer a shut down service to our seasonal customers, please contact our office for more details. If you would like to shut down your own system, there are step by step instructions in the reverse osmosis manual.

*at the bare minimum please turn off the supply to the reverse osmosis even if you shut all the water off to your home.*

Water Softener System - Q&A

How much water should be in my brine tank

(the tank that holds the salt)

The water level in the water softener's brine tank fluctuates depending on the pressure going into the system when it goes into a cycle. If the water level is below the salt that’s perfectly fine. If the water level is above the salt that is also perfectly fine. The only time you need to worry about the water level in the brine tank is when it is near the top of the tank and looks like it might overflow. If your water level is near the top of your brine tank, please call Zepps for assistance.

2

When does my water softener go into a cycle?

The water softener automatically goes into a cycle at 2 am once you have reached your gallon usage. Most systems are set to cycle after you go through 800 – 900 gallons of water.

3

When should I add salt to the brine tank?

We recommend never filling your system more than half way with salt (about two 44lb. bags). Fill the brine tank half way with salt once your salt level is 3”- 4” from the bottom of the brine tank.

4

How long does it take for my water softener to

finish its cycles?

It takes the water softener about 2 hours to go through a full cycle.

5

How do I know when my water softener is done

with its cycle?

When the water softener says “in service” on the left-hand side of the large middle gear it is no longer in a cycle.

6

What do I do with my water softener when I leave town?

As long as you turn the main water off to your house all you have to do with the water softener is make sure the salt level is low as possible (do not add salt if you know you will be leaving within the next month) and that there is 2” – 3” of water above the salt level.

7

Can I make the water less soft?

Water softeners are designed to remove all hard minerals entering your home, with how they function once a cycle is complete the resin should remove all hard minerals from the water.

8

My water doesn't feel as soft as it usually does

During the “in service” period as you get closer to doing a cycle the resin may lose its charge and start allowing trace amounts of hard minerals into your home. If the system goes too far between cycles. You can always bring in a water sample to our store and we can let you know if your water softener is working properly.
